A fire which broke out at an export shop in Deniyaya, Akuressa at around 5 am today (Jan 02) was doused with the assistance of the Fire Brigade of the Matara Municipal Council (MMC).

A fire which broke out at an export shop in Deniyaya, Akuressa at around 5 am today (Jan 02) was doused with the assistance of the Fire Brigade of the Matara Municipal Council (MMC).
Several lorries of cinnamon which were about to be loaded off were parked opposite the shop at the time of the fire.
Two fire trucks from the MMC along with a water bowser each from the Akuressa and Athureliya Pradeshiya Sabha's were dispatched to control the fire. Police and area residents had joined the operation to douse the fire.
No casualties have been reported due to the fire which had burnt down the entire shop.
The cause for the fire is yet to be determined.
