A fire erupted in the early hours of the morning in Galewela town but was subsequently brought under control.
The fire which erupted from within the premises of a shop began spreading to other shops in the vicinity as the shops are situated close together. Residents in the area, as well as the Galewela Police, were able to save some items in the shop.
The fire was eventually brought under control by the Dambulla district Fire brigade. Police believe an electrical short was the reason behind the fire, investigations are still underway.
