At least six lion rooms in a tea plantation estate in Dayagama, Nuwara Eliya have been completely destroyed due to fire forcing some 37 occupants to displace.
The Fire service was called by the neighbours soon after the fire broke but it took two hours to douse the fire completely. Valuable resources, stationeries and school uniforms belong to school children were burned. Dayagama police are carrying out further investigations to determine the cause of the fire.

The Ministry of Environment has taken steps to declare an additional 50 forests as protected reserves, Under the ’Wanaspati’ National Programme.
