Two T-56 firearms along with other accessories have been recovered from a residence in Kurunegala, police said.
An individual had been arrested with a T-56 firearm and 10 rounds of ammunition which had been concealed inside his jacket while being searched at a roadblock on his motorcycle last Saturday.
The person who had been travelling pillion had also been arrested.
According to the police, subsequent inquiries had revealed that the 46-year old suspect who was in possession of the fireram had been attached to the Buttala Army Camp.
A search carried out at his residence had led to the recovery of a T-56 firearm and its cleaning kit, an Italian manufactured air rifle, a telescope used in firearms, six empty bullet shells, and other fireram accessories.
The pillion rider had been identified as an employee attached to the Vijayabahu Regiment in Wathupitiwala.
Both suspects are being questioned upon a 48-hour detention order, police noted.
