The first unit of the Norochcholai Coal Power Plant is to be temporarily shut down for repairs, drawing out 300 Megawatts (MW) of power from the national electricity grid.
Power and Energy Minister Ravi Karunanayake said the first unit which contributes 300 MW's of power to the national grid, would be shut down for 100 days.
At present, there are three units at the Norochcholai Plant contributing 300MW's each to the electricity grid.
The national grid is also expected to lose 100 MW's of electricity after agreements with seven independent power producers are due to end next month.
Minister Karunanayake said that the Ministry would take alternative measures to cover up for the lost power.
