Five arrested in tourist hotel robbery

Five suspects have been arrested for allegedly breaking into a tourist hotel in Kalpitiya and stealing electronic items amounting to over Rs 400, 000.

Police said the suspects had broken into eight cabanas of a hotel located on an island in Kalpitiya and escaped with electronic items including eight 24-inch LED TVs, a DVD Player and an electric kettle. Five suspects who allegedly committed the crime were arrested last evening along with the items they stole. 

The suspects are aged betweem 22 to 33 years. They are all residents of Kalpitiya. The suspects are due to be produced before the Puttalam Magistrate's Court today. Kalpitiya police are investigating.
