Five Chinese couples tied the knot according to local traditions at the opening of the Matara - Beliatta railway route yesterday.
Several chinese nationals were involved in the construction of this new rail route.
Accordingly, the partners of certain individuals who were residing in China were flown into the country to mark this occasion.
The newly wedded couples had taken part in the Poruwa ceremony following which they were wished by Transport Minister Arjuna Ranatunga and several other dignitaries who were present at the opening ceremony.
