Health Ministry has issued a gazette instructing eight hospitals island-wide to have isolated wards in order to facilitate suspected coronavirus patients, a Health Ministry spokesman said.
Among the hospitals to have facilities to treat coronavirus patients will be Gampaha District General Hospital, Negombo Base Hospital, Colombo South Teaching Hospital (Kalubowila), Colombo North Teaching Hospital (Ragama), Kandy National Hospital and Badulla Provincial General Hospital. Another three hospital names will be declared soon. At present the Infectious Diseases Hospital (IDH) is fully equipped with isolated wards, he said.
Meanwhile, all medical staff as well as immigration officers are instructed to wear medical face masks and overall kit when handling possible patients.
He said there is a shortage of medical masks in the state sector osusala’s as well as private sector and are planning to bring down supplies of masks via air cargo.
