A joint search operation by police and military has commenced to find five prison inmates who escaped the Gallella COVID-19 treatment centre in Polonnaruwa Thursday (31) morning, Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said.
The escapees, all suspected drug addicts are of the ages 22, 23,26, 32 and 52, he said.
The suspects who were imprisoned at the Negombo prison on drug charges were tested positive for Coronavirus and sent for treatment.
