The seizing of 100 kilogrammes of heroin from Weligama by Special Task Force (STF) on Friday (20) was a result of a five month operation, Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said.
Three suspects, residents of Kotikawatte, Devinuwara and Polathu modera have been arrested in connection to the smuggling of the large haul of narcotics.
The vehicle used to transport heroin was also taken to police custody. DIG Rohana said the Police Narcotics Bureau is conducting further investigation while the suspects have been produced before Matara Magistrate and to be taken to the Police Narcotics Bureau for questioning.
Information has been received on more suspects involved in the smuggling including several persons from Italy, he said.
