Many food delivery websites in and around Colombo have crashed owing to the huge demand, officials said on Thursday.
The Keels Super site crashed at least twice over the past few days. They were getting more than their capacity – which is about thousand orders for a day, an official said. The company was struggling with the orders placed a few days earlier. They said that the company is working on call – to – order service in the coming days to meet the demand.
It was similar for many other supermarket related food delivery sites.
Cab delivery service, PickMe was inundated with calls and texts requesting to confirm the PickMeFood and Sathosa partnership in delivering food items, PickMe officials said.
“We ran a pilot project, delivering grocery packs which we started on Wednesday from Vauxhall Street on a 6km radius and delivery will be within 24 hours,” an official said.
Meanwhile small individual outfits were also delivering essential food items in and around Colombo. These items ranged from dry rations such as coconuts, dhall, rice etc to cartons of milk, vegetables and meat. They too had unprecedented demand. (DEC)
