Former Director of Namal Rajapaksa's firm arrested at BIA

Ornella Iresha De Silva, a former Secretary to MP Namal Rajapaksa has been arrested by police at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) this morning.

Earlier, an international warrent had been issued for her arrest after she was named as a suspect in a money laundering case involving Gowers Corporate Services, which is allegedly owned by MP Namal Rajapaksa. Ms Desilva had served as a Director of the company.

The Attorney General filed indictments last year against several suspects including Namal Rajapaksa and Iresha De Silva under the Money Laundering Act over alleged misappropriation of millions of rupees through the firm allegedly owned by the Hambantota District MP. 

At the time, Ms De Silva was out of the country and allegedly absconding, leading to an international warrent for her arrest with the police seeking assistance from Interpol.
