Former MP Ranjan Ramanayake, who was arrested by Mirihana Police last evening on charges of obstructing police officers from conducting their duties, was remanded till April 20 after being produced before the Nugegoda Magistrate's Court today.
According to police, an individual from Piliyandala had come to the Madiwela MP's Quarters last afternoon to meet Mr Ramanayake. This individual did not have a valid curfew pass to be traveling. Accordingly, police had tried to arrest him, when they were obstructed by the former MP. However, both suspects were subsequently arrested; the individual from Piliyandala for violating curfew and Mr Ramanayake for aiding and abetting him and for obstructing police.
Both suspects were produced before the Nugegoda Magistrate, who remanded Mr Ramanayake till April 20 while releasing the other suspect on Rs 100, 000 bail.
