Former Chairman of the National Savings Bank (NSB) Pradeep Kariyawasam was sentenced to a suspended jail term of five years by the Colombo Fort Magistrates Court today (Nov 26).
Mr. Kariyawasam was found guilty of causing losses to NSB by purchasing shares of the The Finance (Ltd.) at under valued prices.
Colombo Fort Magistrate Ranga Dissanayake further imposed a fine of Rs 200,000 when the case was taken up before courts today.
Mr. Kariyawasam is the husband of former Chief Justice Shirani Bandaranaike.
