Former Securities Exchange Chairman Godahewa arrested

News

Nalaka Godahewa, the controversial former chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission of Sri Lanka, was arrested this morning (Monday) when he arrived to make a statement at the Financial Crimes Investigation Division (FCID), police said.

He had been wanted in connection on charges of criminal breach of trust and criminal misappropriation and had been postponing a statement, over several months (including before the August 2015 parliamentary poll) that should have been recorded by the FCID.
On Friday, SEC’s former Deputy Director General Dhammika Perera and former ruggerite Ronny Ibrahim were arrested in connection with the same case. The issue is over the SEC transferring Rs 5 million to the ‘Tharunyata Hetak’ youth programme through a private account. – ENDS -
