The foundation laying ceremony for a Rs 1.4 billion worth pharmaceutical manufacturing plant, will take place in Ekala, Ja-Ela tomorrow (Mar 22).
The project will commence under an agreement signed between the Ceylon Pharmacuetical Corporation (CPC) and Melwa Pharma Pvt. Ltd. Around 300 jobs will be created at this facility and save Rs 45 billion incurred to import pharmaceutical drugs.
The construction of this production plant is expected to be completed by 2020 with 46 organisations assisting in the construction.
"Our aim is to produce 85 precent of the total medicine requirement in the country by 2020" Health Minister (Dr.) Rajitha Senaratne said.
