Fuel prices to be increased from midnight tonight

The fuel pricing committee has decided to increase the prices of fuel with effect from midnight today (Feb 11).

Issuing a press release, the Ministry of Finance and Mass Media said that the price revision was made after having taken into consideration the price of crude oil in the world market.

"The price of diesel should have been increased by Rs 9.59. But the government considering its effects has decided to increase the price of diesel by Rs 4" the release said.

According to the latest price revision, a litre of Octane 92 petrol will be increased by Rs 6 while Octane 95 petrol will go up by Rs 5.

In addition, the prices of diesel and super diesel will be increased by Rs 4 and Rs 8 respectively.

Therefore, the price of Octane 92 petrol will stand at Rs 129 while Octane 95 petrol will be priced at Rs 152 a litre following the latest price revision.

The latest revision would also see a litre of diesel being priced at Rs 103 while a litre of Super Diesel will stand at Rs 126.

However, the Ministry noted that the fares for public transport will not change despite the increase in fuel prices.
