The embargo put in place by the western Province Waste Management Authority on disposing mix-waste in to the Karadiyana waste dump from today (1) has been relaxed temporarily, its director Nalin Mannapperuma said.
This decision was taken after considering the difficulty about a million-strong people, who live in the seven local councils that came under the embargo, would have to go through, he said.
Mr Mannapperuma said the heads of the affected local authorities got in touch with him and that urgent steps would be taken to channel the waste to an alternate site. He said written permission has already been sort from the Aruwakkalu landfill project and the project generating electricity from waste in Kerawalapitiya.
