The Election Commission (EC) has issued a gazette notification announcing the date for the presidential elections.
According to the EC's gazette dated today (Sept 18), nominations for the poll would be called on October 7.
The election would be held on November 16, the gazette read.
So far the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna and the National People's Power alliance have nominated former Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa and Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake as their presidential candidates respectively.
