A gazette notification has been issued to declare rail services as an essential service.
The gazette had been signed by President's Secretary Udaya R Seneviratne upon the instructions of the President today (Jun 27).
The move had been done in line with the Essential Public Services Act (No. 61 of 1979), the gazette notes.
Accordingly to the gazette, all required services for the functioning of the railway system must take place without any interruption.
