The Gazette pertain to conducting polls for local bodies was signed by Minister of Provincial Councils and Local Government Faiszer Musthapha at the ministry today. The new gazette details the number of members to each local authorities under the powers vested by three amendments passed recently.
The new gazette notification also authorized to create five local bodies in the country after the cabinet approval.
Due to the prevailing issues that the Provincial Councils in the Nuwera Eliya district are facing, Nuwera Eliya and Ambagamuwa Pradeshiya Sabahs will be divided into six local bodies. A new municipal council will also be established in Polonnaruwa.
