Lawyers representing Geetha Kumarasinghe have filed an appeal at the Supreme Court against the Court of Appeal ruling which disqualified her as an MP.
On May 3, the Court of Appeal ruled that Ms Kumarasinghe was disqualified from being a Parliamentarian as she held duel citizenship. A person holding duel citizenship cannot be an MP as per the 19th Amendment to the Constitution.
Earlier, the Secretary General of Parliament informed Chairman of the Elections Commission, Mahinda Deshapriya, that Ms Kumarasinghe's MP post had been annulled in line with the Court of Appeal decision.
