The Government Medical Officers Association (GMOA) has said that the timeframe provided for SAITM students to register themselves at the Sir John Kotalawala Defence University (KDU) should not be extended any further.
In a bid to resolve the SAITM issue, President Maithripala Sirisena had offered an opportunity for both graduates and undergraduates at the medical institute to register themselves at the KDU.
Commenting on this move, the GMOA claimed that some 80 graduates from SAITM had not agreed to this provision despite a majority of undergraduates making use of this opportunity. However, certain graduates had reversed their decision to go against this move and had requested for more time until March 31 in order to register themselves at the KDU.
These students had later proceeded to register themselves during this extended time period, the GMOA noted while pointing out that a majority had not done so.
Accordingly, the GMOA urged that a further extension, if requested by the remaining graduates, must not be granted under any circumstances.
