The Government Medical Officer’s Association (GMOA) today said they will be going ahead with the island wide strike as the government has offered no solutions to their demands.
The strike is to commence tomorrow from eight in the morning to Eight in the morning the day after.
They said that more than 21 trade unions will be actively participating in the strike and the trade unions belong to health, education and railway sectors.
However they stated that Lady Ridgeway hospital, De Zoysa maternity hospital, Castle hospital, Sirimavo Bandaranaike children’s hospital, Maharagama Cancer hospital and Kidney units in all hospitals will not take part in the strike.
Teachers and Principals from schools island wide will be actively participating in the strike tomorrow. The Railway Guard’s Association and the Railway Driver’s Association has confirmed that they will be taking part in the island wide strike tomorrow.
More than 150 trade unions island wide will be extending their support in different ways by picketing and wearing symbolic black bands. (SI)
