GMOA strike at Karapitiya Hospital due to row over parking space
Outpatient (OPD) treatment and Clinics at the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital have not been conducted since yesterday (10) over a dispute between two groups of doctors over a parking space at the hospital. Doctors affiliated to the Government Medical Officers' Association (GMOA) have refrained from working at the hospital since last morning after launching a token strike over the incident.
The dispute had arisen between consultants and doctors at the hospital over access to parking spaces at the hospital's car park. Doctors launched the strike yesterday claiming that consultants had prevented several doctors from parking their vehicles in the car park situated at the back of the hospital near the consultants' lounge.
With doctors affiliated to the GMOA refraining from working in OPD treatments and clinics, these services were virtually paralysed at the hospital yesterday. However, the strike did not affect emergency services.
