GMOA token strike begins

The Government Medical Officers' Association (GMOA) today commenced a token island-wide strike over claims that the post intern vacancy list prepared by the Health Ministry had been altered due to political interference. 

The trade union action commenced at 8.00am today and is due to end at 12.00 noon. The strike is in effect in all districts except Colombo, Gampaha and Kegalle, which are the worst flood affected districts. 

Children's, Maternity, Cancer hospitals and Renal units are also excluded while Emergency Services will be maintained as usual, according to the GMOA.
