The Government Medical Officers Association (GMOA) has urged that legal action to be taken against Dr Rukshan Bellana, a former official of the National Blood Transfusion Service (NBTS) for allegedly threatening a witness in a case against the authority.
Dr. Bellana, the former Acting Deputy Director of the NTBS had threatened Deputy Director Dr. D.H. Saranajeewa after she had provided a statement before the presidential commission in a corruption case concerning the Blood Bank.
In a letter written to the Presidential Commission investigating state sector corruption, the GMOA insisted that protection must be provided to witnesses of these cases. Further, the GMOA noted that measures have been taken to notify the President in this regard as well.
The Presidential Commission upon being notified regarding the threats had previously instructed police protection to be provided to Dr Saranajeewa.
