President Gotabaya Rajapaksa who took wing to India on his first state visit after being elected to office reached New Delhi last evening.
He was received by India’s State Transport and Highways Minister Dr. V.K.Singh at the Indira Gandhi International Airport.
Sri Lankan High Commissioner in India Austin Fernando and the Indian High Commissioner in Sri Lanka Tharanjit Singh Sandu were also present.
A cultural event was also held outside the airport to welcome the President.
President Rajapaksa's visit comes in response to an invitation extended by Indian Premier Narendra Modi who was among the first state leaders to congratulate his election victory.
While in New Delhi, President Rajapaksa will meet Indian President Ram Nath Kovind and hold bilateral talks with the Indian Prime Minister.
