Former Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa who is tipped to be the upcoming presidential candidate has renounced his US citizenship, former minister Basil Rajapaksa said today (Aug 8).
Addressing a press briefing at the Sri lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) headquarters, Mr. Rajapaksa, the founder of the party refuted claims that the former defence secretary would be a tyrannical ruler.
He observed that certain fractions have voiced severe opposition against the probable presidential candidate out of fear.
Commenting on the upcoming SLPP convention on August 11, Mr. Rajapaksa stated that declaring former President Mahinda Rajapaksa as the party leader and announcing the presidential candidate would be two significant features of the event.
