The Peoples’ Liberation Front (JVP) whose No Confidence Motion is currently being debated at the Parliament called upon all political parties in the house to vote in support of the motion since it claimed that the government failed to protect its citizens during Easter Sunday attacks despite adequate intelligence warnings.
Presenting the motion in Parliament on the basis of criminal negligence of the cabinet led by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, JVP leader, Anura Kumara Dissanayake noted that though his party presented the motion, it had not engaged in any secret meetings with other political parties to secure their support for the motion since the matter was one of national importance.
“Easter Sunday tragedy was a direct attack on our country that left the economy in very bad shape. We don’t want to engage in meetings with other political parties in rooms to secure their support. This matter should be discussed openly at the chambers of the Parliament,” JVP Leader said while urging the Opposition led by Parliamentarian Mahinda Rajapaksa and leader of TNA, R. Sampanthan to vote in support of the motion.
Times Online learns that Premier Wickremesinghe sought the support of the TNA but the party is yet to take a final decision whether to support the motion or not. The party is expected to meet tomorrow.
According to JVP leader, the minority government commands the support of 106 Parliamentarians while 118 MPs are attached to the Opposition.
