Govt. to launch free vocational training programme for three-wheel drivers

News

The government has decided to launch a free vocational training programme for three-wheel drivers to assist them in spending their free time in a fruitful manner.

A survey conducted by the National Apprentice and Industrial Training Authority (NAITA) has shown that a three-wheel driver who works for eight hours a day spends six hours waiting for a hire.

Accordingly, this training programme titled ‘From three-wheel to four-wheel’ will be carried out by NAITA and is expected to provide training to nearly one million three-wheel drivers by the end of this year.

Three-wheel drivers will be tutored on plumbing, repairing electrical equipment, mobile phones and household appliances, and hairstyling.

The pilot projects of this programme have been successfully implemented in the Nuwara Eliya, Matale and Polonnaruwa districts.

NAITA statistics point out that there are 1.2 million registered three-wheelers in the country.
