The Government has decided to renovate and use vehicles not used by state institutes while discarding vehicles which are beyond restoration.
The Cabinet has approved the proposal made by the Minister of Finance and Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa to utilize 4,116 vehicles which are not used due to lack of proper maintenance. He has also proposed to discard 5,588 irreparable vehicles which are not in running condition.
Co-Cabinet Spokesman Ramesh Pathirana said that the prime minister submitted a proposal for allocation of provisions form the department of National Budget at the occasion in which the relevant institutes to repair the vehicles profitable to be utilized after reparation.
He has also proposed transferring the vehicles to be repaired through The Controller General’s office under the Ministry of Finance to state institutions which have a lack of vehicles.
