Several white elephant projects of the previous government have been transformed into “majestic elephant” projects under the incumbent government, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe remarked yesterday (Mar 24).
Addressing the foundation laying ceremony of the Mirijjawila oil refinery, Mr. Wickremesinghe quipped that while Wild Elephants were in Yala, White Elephants were in Hambantota when his government took over in 2015.
He stressed that the Civil Aviation Authority would join hands with the Indian Authorities and enhance operational activities at the Mattala Airport within the next three months.
Oman’s Minster for Oil and Energy Dr Mohammed Hamad Al Ruhmy also graced the foundation laying ceremony which coincided with the 70th birthday of Prime Minister Wickremesinghe.
