A handgrenade found buried on the premises of the Hambantota Pradeshiya Sabha was defused by police Special Task Force (STF) yesterday (27). The grenade is thought to have been buried about two years ago.
A Pradeshiya Sabha employee working at the vegetable garden maintained within the Pradeshiya Sabha premises had seen the bomb and had alerted the PS Chairman, who in turn notified the Ambalantota police.
Police said steps were taken to defuse the grenade after notifying the Hambantota Magistrate's Court.
