Hambantota Port workers commence strike

Workers at the Magampura Port in Hambantota have commenced a token strike today demanding job security. 

The strike, which began at 8.00am, is to call on authorities to secure the jobs of 467 port workers who are employed there. 

In July, the Government signed an agreement with China Merchant Port Holdings Company giving it a stake in the port.
