Hambantota protests: Case put off till November 27

The hearing into the case against 39 persons who were arrested during the protests held on January 7 this year over acquiring lands for the Hambantota investment zone, was postpone till November 27 today.

Hambantota Magistrate Manjula Karunaratne postponed the hearing after he was informed that the Attorney General's Department was yet to provide instructions regarding the suspects. 

All 39 suspects are currently out on bail. They had been arrested by police on charges of disorderly conduct and damaging public property during protests held on January 7 during the foundation stone laying ceremony for the Ruhunupura Development Project.
