Uva PC Opposition Leader, Harin Fernando was sworn in as the Chief Minister of the Uva provincial council a shortwhile ago. Governor of the Uva Province, Nanda Matthew according to local media reports had said that the opposition of the Uva Provincial council, led by Harin Fernando, secured a majority of seats in the council. Governor Matthew said Mr Fernando had written to him noting that he has the support of 17 councillors. He added that he had personally contacted the councillors who had signed the letter noting that they had all verified their support.

Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa is due to vacate his official residence at Wijerama Mawatha, Colombo this morning, a Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) source said.
