A hartal is currently taking place today in Mullaitivu in remembrance of those who were killed in the final stages of the war.
The hartal was organized by the Mullaitivu and Puthukuduirippu Traders' Association and it disrupted day-to-day life in the towns as all shops were shut down. However, though the shops were shut, all Government offices and banks remained open.
The traders' association says that the shops will be shut throughout today as a mark of respect for civilians killed during the war..
