Minister of Health Pavithra Wanniarachchi has appointed a five member committee to look into the activities of the Sri Lanka Medical Council (SLMC).
The Ministry stated that the committee was appointed following several complaints received against the SLMC. The Ministry cites five recent incidents that raised questions over the independence of the SLMC.
The most recent of these incidents is the SLMC's decision to delist three Russian universities from its list of recognized foreign universities, leading to concerns being raised by the Russian Embassy in Colombo. The SLMC later stated that the delisting of the universities was a mistake.
