The State Veterninary Surgeons' Association (SVSA) has claimed that owing to the actions of the Health Minister the rabies prevention campaigns in the country are being sabotaged.
The SVSA made this remark while drawing reference to a proposal put forward by Minister Rajitha Senaratne which was approved by the cabinet to entrust the Ministry of Health with the duty of carrying out these programmes including the carrying out of vaccinations.
"Millions of rupees from the public purse were spent to establish SVSA centres across the country," Chairman of the SVSA Dr. Ruwan Wickramarachchi said in a statement, adding that these centres had successfully carried out anti-rabies campaigns over the last eight months.
He added that the good work of these programmes have now been halted.
