Health Services Director General Dr Anil Jayasinghe has been asked to appear before the police unit of the Presidential Commission probing state sector corruption tomorrow (Aug 27).
A spokesman for the Commission said that a complaint has been filed against the Health Ministry over certain irregularities which had occurred while importing antibiotics.
The complaint has been filed by Government Medical Officers Association (GMOA) Secretary Dr Haritha Aluthge.
Dr. Aluthge told Times Online that the Health Ministry had issued two tenders in violation of the due procedure to procure antibiotics in 2017.
He claimed that the government had faced more than Rs 100 million in losses due to this move which also saw the importation of substandard drugs.
The Presidential Commission is currently probing acts of fraud and corruption which had taken place at state institutions under the present government.
