Heavy showers predicted in eight districts
The Department of Meteorology has issued a weather alert predicting heavy showers in eight districts.
Heavy falls between 100-150 mm are likely to occur in the Nuwara Eliya, Ratnapura, Kegalle Colombo, Gampaha, Kalutara, Galle and Matara districts during the next 24 hours.
In addition, fairly heavy falls above 50 mm are likely at some places in Kurunegala and Kandy districts, the weather authority said adding that the prevailing showery condition in South - Western is expected to enhance until tomorrow (Aug 30).
Strong gusty up to 50 kmph are also likely over the island, the weather authority cautioned.
