The Meteorological Department has issued a weather warning predicting an increase in wind speed after 2 pm across seven provinces today (Aug 13).
According to the warning, wind speeds are expected to range between 70 - 80 kmph in the Western, Southern, Sabaragamuwa, North Central, North Western, Northern, and Central Provinces and the Trincomalee district.
The weather authority urged residents of coastal areas to remain vigilant on the weather condition and requested the public to remain cautious of fallen trees and power lines.
Further, the Department noted that unattached metal sheets in houses could be blown off due to the heavy winds while thatched houses too could be vulnerable to damages.
