The handing over of 150 houses that were constructed under the Indian Housing Project took place at the Dayagama West Estate in Nuwara Eliya yesterday (Jan 20).
The houses were handed over to the benificiaries by Ministers Palani Digambaram, Gayantha Karunathilake,V. Radhakrishnan, and Indian Deputy High Commissioner Dr. Shilpak N. Ambule.
Dr. Ambule, addressing the occassion emphasised that the housing project worth approximately Rs 50 billion was the largest ever grant provided to any country. He also recalled that out of the total commitment of 63,000 houses, 47,000 houses had already been built.
The Deputy High Commissioner then reiterated the Indian Government's and its people's committment to work with Sri Lankans in their journey towards peace and prosperity.
