IGP Pujith Jayasundara has issued instructions to conduct investigations over allegations of mistreatment by police officers during a university students protest yesterday (Apr 24), Police Spokesman S P Ruwan Gunasekara said.
"The Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of the Mount Lavinia Police will be appointing a commitee to conduct investigations using visual footage of the protest," the Police Spokesman told a news conference this afternoon.
Accordingly, a special committee will be appointed to probe into the incident following which relevant measures would be taken against police officers who had violated the law.
However, Mr. Gunasekara said that five police officers were injured during yesterday's protest out of which one has been hospitalised.
