All illegal billboards and cutouts in main towns will be removed by the Police with immediate effect, Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of the Environmental Protection Division Nimal Perera said.
He said that accordingly all boards which do not have local council approval will be removed.
He said they hope to introduce areas where posters, billboards, and banners could be displayed in future.
Meanwhile, police spokesman SSP Ruwan Gunasekara said that they hope to carry out campaigns to clean up beaches islandwide.
The programmes will be carried out at tourist popular locations.
He said that dumping of garbage in beaches will also be prohibited while facilities to dispose garbage in beaches will be created.
