Illegal elephant calf possession case fixed for Nov 14

The illegal elephant calf possession case against four suspects including an interdicted magistrate has been fixed for November 14 by the Colombo High Court.

The Attorney General has charged the suspects under 25 counts for being in the possession of an elephant calf named ‘Sakura’ in Meegoda between November 6, 2008 and May 18, 2015.

uspended Additional Magistrate Thilina Gamage,two former employees of the Wildlife Department Priyanka Sanjeewani and Upali Padmasiri, and Chandrasena Bandara, an individual claiming to be the owner of the elephant are the accused in the case.
