The case filed against eight individuals over the illegal possession of five elephant calfs will be taken up on September 18, the Colombo High Court ordered today (Aug 30).
During a hearing before High Court judge Vikum Kaluarachchi, the accused informed court that they would file objections against their charges during the next court proceeding.
The Attorney General served charges the suspects under 33 counts for violating the Fauna and Flora Act and also the Public Property Act.
The accused include wildlife officials namely Priyanka Sanjeewani, Upali Padmasiri, and Damith Chathuranga, and also Niraj Roshan alias 'Ali Roshan', Chandana Kumara, Chanuka Gamlath, Nishan Dhammika and Gamage Jayalath.
