The Immigration Department has launched an island-wide operation to crack down on foreign nationals who have breached visa laws, an Immigration Department official said.
Violations include staying in the country without a valid visa or overstaying their visas, the official explained adding that some individuals had overstayed their visas upto two years.
According to the Immigration and Emigration Department, more than 1000 foreign nationals which include foregin lecturers are suspected of breaching immigration laws.
Accordingly, the Department along with the security forces will take part in an operation to enforce the law against individuals who are found guilty of committing such offences. The operation will be in effect from today (May 07).
