India and Sri Lanka today signed an Memorandum Of Understanding (MOU) to supply 150 boats and fishing equipment to fishermen of Mullaithivu.
The MoU was signed at the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development by Y.K. Sinha, High Commissioner of India and Ms. W.M.M.R. Adikari, Secretary, Ministry of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development. Minister of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development Mahinda Amaraweera presided over the ceremony.
The Indian government will gift 150 boats and other fishing equipment to 300 beneficiaries in Mullaithivu. The project will be implemented in consultation with the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development and relevant local authorities. The total cost of the project is Rs 100 million. The High Commission of India will float a tender to procure the items through a competitive bidding process.
